What is it like to be an Educator in our Putney nursery?
Morning Arrival
I kick off the day welcoming families as the children arrive at the Church to hop on our minibus, the ‘Classroom on Wheels.’ During the journey to the forest, we sing songs, tell stories, and chat with our bus buddies while spotting interesting things out the window.
Forest Breakfast & Circle Time
Once we’re at the forest, it’s handwashing and breakfast time to fuel up for the day. Then, around the campfire, we chat about the day ahead during our circle time, we share how we’re feeling, go over the forest rules, and sing a song.
Morning Exploration & Play
The forest comes to life as the children explore and play. I set up activities and also make sure our free play areas, like the mud kitchen and obstacle courses are inviting. Our child led play enables the children to learn and thrive.
Lunch & Nap Time
Lunch is a chance to sit down together and I support with serving and sitting with the children as they eat. Afterwards, some children sleep in our cosy yurt.
Afternoon Snack & Adventure Walk
We grab a snack of fresh fruit and vegetables and head off for an adventure walk. Whether it’s spotting wildlife, climbing mud mountain, or telling stories, every step is a chance to discover something new.
Tea & Home Time
We wind down with tea and chats before jumping back on the bus, singing songs and sharing the day’s highlights on the way back to the Church. An important part of my day is handing over to families as they collect and sharing what their child got up to in the forest.
